My Life as a Spy, a history...My Life as a Spy was created in mid-2001 by Jamie "Skysaw" Kowalski using the BYOND engine.
It was hosted every Friday night from 7:00pm into the early morning hours of Saturday for quite a many months as Skysaw developed the game, these nights became affectionately known as "Spy Nights", drawing in quite a few members of the small close-knit community, the game generated a small bit of income using microtransactions in-game to promote your character to rank 12 from rank 11, and rank 17 from rank 16, as well as (eventually) joining the Purple agency.
As the playerbase and game itself grew Skysaw expanded the schedule to extend the entire weekend instead of just a single day, introducing moderators known as "Guides" to help manage the ever-growing need for policing. Skysaw switched to a monthly subscription model instead of microtransactions which encompassed all of the benefits in a much easier to manage package.
To help along the newly introduced subscription model known as "My Life as a Spy Gold", Skysaw began introducing the highly-secretive White agency, revealing very few details to the community outside of a few cryptic in-game Tip Sheets as to how to begin the process, it wasn't long before the vigilent efforts of the players revealed the secrets, and people began to trickle onto the team, keeping the secrets to themselves to keep the appeal of joining fresh for people beginning anew.
Unfortunately around this time Skysaw's real-world obligations too center stage and he had to put the game on the back-burner and updates started to come fewer and farer between, the White agency skills left unfinished. The game stayed afloat through the efforts of the hosts that had been selected by Skysaw when his ability to host consistently became too hard, but the lack of updates and half-finished features caused the players to gradually move on and find other ventures...
After some time of inactivity, long-time player, moderator, and fellow BYOND game developer Nadrew (after some years of discussion) gained access to the game's resources from Skysaw following a strict agreement to retain the spirit of the game, and began updating once again. The first updates were to fix the few bugs that lingered around causing headaches for the few people left playing the game on a regular basis, giving the hosts a stable environment to continue hosting the classic version of the game.
Once initial updates were complete Nadrew moved on to move indepth updates, initially focusing on finishing off the White agency and adding content to appeal to both new players and old players alike, however, despite the steady stream of content updates, the years of inactivity had taken a toll and player counts remain fairly low, even with the game running near 24/7.
Nadrew continues to provide updates to the game and is slowly but surely working towards another major release that includes features such as smooth, rich dynamic lighting effects, smoother movement and control responsiveness, gamepad support, and interface refinements.
The game is fully playable using the BYOND client and any web-browser that supports HTML5 to a good degree using the Play Now link.
Skysaw requires that MLAAS Gold remain in the game and all profit goes to him, any queries about it should be forwarded to him (contact details coming soon...)
